The cladding PPC auction house
PPC Advertising for Cladding Industry
Every cladding search is an auction. When a facade consultant verifies a certificate number, your ad is either in that auction or you are paying for someone else to be. This page lays out how cladding, rainscreen and facade manufacturers actually win those auctions: the keyword tiers, the campaign structure, the landing pages, the budgets and the measurement. It is written to be copied into your own account, not admired.
6.64%
average search CTR in WordStream's 2026 benchmark (13,000+ US campaigns). Evidence-led cladding ads beat it.
£2.50-8.00
UK CPC on certification and specification keywords. The cheapest clicks in the account are usually the most expensive mistakes.
12-24 mo
the commercial facade specification cycle. A click in month three can become an RFQ in month eighteen. The account has to survive that gap.
6.9%
CAGR forecast for the global rainscreen cladding market through 2035 (Future Market Insights). More projects means more of these searches every month.
Paid search for cladding exists because your organic rankings will not be ready when the specification is. SEO on a certification page takes six to eighteen months to compound, and the project team verifying systems today is not going to wait. Google Ads sits on those verification searches now, and when the account is structured right, the clicks end in RFQs, NBS clause downloads and specification meetings instead of bounces.
The difference between a cladding PPC account that prints RFQs and one that burns budget is structure. A head term like cladding attracts homeowners, installers and students. The people who actually specify your system search differently. They search for the evidence: the BS 8414-1 classification, the AAMA 508-14 certification, the BBA certificate number, the EN 13501-1 reaction to fire class. They search in the middle of a project, usually 12 to 24 months before the tender, and they search to verify, not to browse.
Everything below is written as a working spec you can lift into your own account: keyword architecture, match type discipline, campaign structure, landing page rules, benchmarks, budget logic, bid strategy and measurement. If you manufacture cladding or rainscreen systems, this is the reference document to hand your SEM team.

If you remember one thing: in cladding, you are not bidding on clicks, you are bidding on being written into the specification. Structure everything around that.
Why Head-Term PPC Wastes Budget in the Cladding Industry
Most cladding PPC accounts start with the obvious keywords: cladding, cladding systems, cladding panels. High volume, tempting, and almost entirely wrong. Here is what those searches actually look like once you open the search term report.
The DIY homeowner
Searches for cladding repair, cladding paint, self adhesive cladding and cost per m2 for a house. They want a tradesperson, not a system manufacturer. Each click is pure waste.
The job seeker and the student
Cladding jobs, cladding courses, cladding meaning, what is cladding. High volume, zero commercial value, and impossible to convert on a manufacturer landing page.
The installer hunting materials
Searching cladding panels wholesale and cladding suppliers. These are real enquiries, but they buy to a specification written by someone else. Low margin, low loyalty.
The pattern shows up in every account we audit. A manufacturer spends £4,000 to £8,000 a month on head terms, the click-through rate collapses because the ads promise commercial systems to homeowners, and the clicks that do arrive land on a homepage that answers none of their questions. Google Ads did not fail. The account was built for volume instead of intent.
Now compare that with the verification searches. Someone who types AAMA 508-14 certified rainscreen or BS 8414-1 pass cladding system has already narrowed the material family, is holding a live project, and wants one thing: proof. That person is worth ten head-term clickers. A specification written today turns into a tender nine to eighteen months later, and a specified system survives substitution in roughly nine out of ten projects.
The cost of the wrong click
Head-term click
£0.80-1.50, converts to a pricing question about a house extension, then bounces. Zero pipeline value.
Verification click
£3.50-8.00, converts to a certificate download from a live project team, then to an RFQ three to six months later.
The arithmetic
At £1,400 of affordable cost per RFQ (see LOT 10), one named specification pays for months of verification clicks. The wrong clicks never get near that.
The Specification Economy: Who Searches When
A commercial facade specification runs 12 to 24 months from feasibility to tender, and different people search at each stage. The architect in feasibility compares material families. The fire engineer in month nine verifies test evidence. The quantity surveyor in month eighteen prices alternatives. Each one types different queries, lands on different pages and converts on a different action. Treat all five stages as one campaign and you miss most of the funnel. LinkedIn puts the median B2B buying cycle at 211 days; a facade specification runs longer still, because it drags in more decision makers and a fire-safety layer that did not exist a decade ago.
| Stage | When | Who searches | What they type | The ad that wins | Conversion |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Feasibility | 24 to 18 months before tender | Architect, developer, planning consultant | Material families, system types, cladding system for high-rise residential | Comparison guides and building-type project galleries | Guide download, project gallery visit |
| Design development | 18 to 9 months before tender | Facade consultant, envelope engineer, architect | AAMA 508-14, CWCT TN 74, system details, U-value performance | Certification evidence and system engineering pages | Evidence page visit, technical datasheet download |
| Fire and compliance | 12 to 6 months before tender | Fire engineer, building control, approved inspector | BS 8414-1 pass, EN 13501-1 class, BBA certificate, ETAG 034 | Certificate pages with test dates and assembly drawings | Certificate download, RFQ |
| Specification | 9 to 3 months before tender | Specification writer, quantity surveyor | NBS clause, rainscreen specification, open joint spec | Spec pack and clause libraries | Spec pack download, RFQ |
| Tender and procurement | 3 months to tender date | Contractor, buyer, quantity surveyor | Supplier, price per m2, lead time | Pricing and availability pages | RFQ form, pricing request |
Feasibility is the shortlist
In feasibility, the project team compares material families. Ads here do not sell a panel, they win a place on the shortlist. High CTR, low direct conversion, and the decision made in this stage shapes everything downstream.
Design development is the evidence hunt
Post-Grenfell, the fire evidence IS the product. A manufacturer without a searchable BS 8414-1 and EN 13501-1 trail is invisible in the compliance stage. Conversion there is the highest in the funnel because the searcher is already convinced about the system type.
Specification decides the winner
The facade system is named in the specification months before the tender. Whoever controls the verification search in that window sets the competitive field. Everyone else competes for substitution, and substitution is a losing game.
Keyword Architecture for a Cladding PPC Account
The keyword list is the account. Every campaign, ad group, ad and landing page hangs off it, so the tiering below exists to keep the account readable, the budgets predictable and the search term report useful. Each tier has its own intent, CPC range, match type discipline and landing page. Mix them and you lose all four.
Keyword Tiers for a Cladding PPC Account
Every keyword in a cladding account belongs to one of five tiers. The tier decides the bid, the match type and the landing page.
| Tier | Example queries | Intent | CPC range | Match type | Landing page |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Certification verification | aama 508-14 certified rainscreen, bs 8414-1 pass cladding system, EN 13501-1 A2-s1,d0 panel certificate | Verify | £3.50-8.00 | Exact | Evidence page |
| Specification writing | cladding NBS specification clause, rainscreen system specification, open joint rainscreen spec | Write | £2.80-5.50 | Phrase | Spec pack download |
| Material comparison | terracotta vs HPL facade, ACM vs fibre cement panels, pressure equalized rainscreen | Compare | £2.20-4.50 | Phrase | Comparison guide |
| Application research | cladding for hospitals, rainscreen for high-rise residential, facade for data centres | Apply | £2.40-5.00 | Broad (bounded) | Project gallery |
| Procurement | cladding supplier UK, rainscreen system price per m2, cladding panel lead time | Buy | £1.50-3.50 | Exact + phrase | RFQ form |

Post-Grenfell, the fire evidence IS the product. A manufacturer without a searchable BS 8414-1 and EN 13501-1 trail is invisible in this stage. CVR here is the highest in the funnel.
| Search query | Intent | CPC range | Volume | Landing page |

| “EN 13501-1 A2-s1,d0 panel certificate” | Certification | £4.00-7.00 | 80-250 / mo | EN 13501-1 certificate page |
| “BBA approved rainscreen cladding system” | Certification | £3.50-6.00 | 60-200 / mo | BBA certificate + download |
| “ETAG 034 certified facade kit” | Certification | £3.80-6.50 | 20-80 / mo | ETA / DoP download page |
CPC and volume are directional ranges for UK search, built from public keyword tools and our own campaign data. US and EU figures differ by market; the intent structure does not.
Certification Queries and the Standards They Map To
Each certification standard generates its own verification queries. If your system does not hold the certificate, you cannot convert the query, so do not bid on it. If you do hold it, this is the most defensible part of the account, because the price of entry excludes competitors without evidence.
| Standard | What it proves | Typical queries | Where it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| BS 8414-1 | Full-scale fire test of a non-loadbearing cladding system on a masonry face | bs 8414-1 pass, bs 8414 cladding system test | UK high-rise and the buildings above 18m that need system-level fire evidence |
| BS 8414-2 | Same fire test for a system fixed to a structural steel frame | bs 8414-2 steel frame cladding | Steel-framed high-rise and mixed-use buildings |
| EN 13501-1 | European reaction to fire classification, A1 to F, with smoke and droplet classes | en 13501-1 a2-s1,d0, euroclass a2 certificate | All EU markets and the UK, where A2-s1,d0 or better is the expected class for high-rise facades |
| AAMA 508-14 | Voluntary test for pressure-equalized rainscreen walls: air, water and structural performance | aama 508-14, pressure equalized rainscreen | North America, where PER walls are the high-rise standard |
| CWCT TN 74 | Test methods for drained and ventilated rainscreen walls: water penetration, air permeability | cwct tn 74, cwct rainscreen test | UK facade contracts that call up CWCT sequence B tests |
| ETAG 034 | European Technical Approval Guideline for kits: external wall cladding kits | etag 034 kit, eta certificate cladding | EU markets and the UK, where kit-level ETA evidence opens doors |
| BBA / LABC / UKAS | Third-party certification of fitness for purpose, often cited in UK specifications | bba approved rainscreen, bba certificate | UK specs that require an Agrément certificate as a condition of approval |
Standard descriptions are summaries for bid planning. Always verify the current edition and scope of each standard against the issuing body before you build ads around it.
Match Types and the Negative List
Match types decide which auctions you enter. In a cladding account they are the difference between an account that prints RFQs and one that feeds click farms. Broad match without a mature negative list is how a £6,000 monthly budget becomes 2,000 clicks from people painting their garage. The visualizer below shows exactly what each match type can trigger, and the negative tiers are the floor you build on.

Match Types and the Negative List
The difference between a cladding account that prints RFQs and one that feeds click farms is in this screen.
[aama 508-14 certified rainscreen]
Matches only the query or very close variants. The safest match type for a low-volume, high-value spec-intent portfolio. Close variants still pick up misspellings and plurals, which in a technical category is what you want.

Rule 01
One campaign, one intent
Do not mix certification verification with procurement in one campaign. The budgets, bids and ad copy have nothing in common.
Rule 02
Budget by evidence
A system with a published BS 8414-1 pass and BBA certificate earns a bigger budget share than a product line with no test evidence. Evidence converts.
Rule 03
Match the landing page to the keyword
A click on a BS 8414-1 ad must land on the BS 8414-1 evidence page. Any other destination sinks Quality Score and conversion rate.
Ad Copy with Test Evidence
Specifiers ignore ads that promise cheap or fast. They click ads that answer the verification question. The strongest cladding ads lead with the evidence: the fire classification, the certificate, the test standard. These are the copy patterns that win in our accounts.

Landing Pages That Convert Specifiers, Not Browsers
A paid click on a cladding ad is an appointment. The specifier asked a verification question and your ad promised the answer. If the landing page does not deliver it in the first screen, the click is gone. This comparison shows why generic pages leak the traffic you paid for.
Generic Landing Page vs Specification Landing Page
What a cladding specifier experiences when they click a paid ad.
| Element | Generic page | Specification page |
|---|---|---|
| Headline | "Cladding Systems" | "BS 8414-1 Pass A2 System with Assembly Drawing and Certificate" |
| First proof element | Product photo carousel | Fire classification badge, BBA certificate number, test date |
| Technical content | Marketing copy about aesthetics | Downloadable certificate, assembly drawing, datasheet |
| Conversion | Generic contact form | Context-specific action: RFQ, NBS clause, BIM object, spec pack |
| Signal to specifier | "A supplier" | "A system I can verify and write into the spec today" |
Check 01
The evidence is above the fold
Fire class, certificate number and test standard visible without scrolling. No click required to see proof.
Check 02
One conversion action per page
The RFQ form on the evidence page, the download on the spec page. Choice kills conversion in B2B technical pages.
Check 03
Load speed under two seconds
A specifier in the middle of a project will not wait. Compress the certificate PDFs, lazy-load the gallery, keep the page lean.
Landing page quality feeds straight into what you pay per click. Google weighs expected CTR, ad relevance and landing page experience into the Quality Score that multiplies your bid. The audit below runs through the eight factors that matter in a cladding account. Answer it honestly and it will show you where your money is leaking.

Quality Score Audit for a Cladding Account
Eight factors decide what you pay per click. Be honest with each one and the model estimates your likely Quality Score and the two or three fixes that move it fastest.

Google does not publish its exact Quality Score formula. This audit mirrors the factors Google documents and the ones that move cost in cladding accounts: expected CTR, ad relevance and landing page experience carry the most weight.
Channel Map: Where the Budget Goes
Google Search is the core because specification queries are typed into a search box. But a £4,000 search budget alone leaves the first half of the specification cycle untouched. LinkedIn reaches the named firms before they search, YouTube and Display hold the line across a 12 to 24 month cycle, and programmatic scales the account once search has proven the audience. The channel map below breaks down each channel's role, cost and verdict.

Reach and cost
Medium volume, highest intent. Only active demand, nothing proactive.
CPC £2.50 to £8.00 on certification queries. CPL £60 to £180 depending on landing page quality.
Best creative format
Responsive search ads with certification sitelinks, lead form extensions and callout extensions.
Primary KPI
Cost per spec-grade inquiry, cost per certificate download, search term purity.

Verdict: Non-negotiable. If you only run one channel, run this one with the structure in Section 6.
Platform Comparison for Cladding Campaigns
Each paid platform earns a different part of the specification cycle. The question is not which platform is best, it is which platform owns which job.
| Channel | Where it earns its budget | Typical cost | Best at | Watch out |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Search | Design development through tender | CPC £2.50-8.00 on certification queries | Capturing verification searches the moment they are typed | Head terms and weak negatives burn budget fast |
| LinkedIn Ads | Feasibility through design development | CPM £30-70, CPC £6-12 | ABM at named architecture and facade firms before they search | High CPL if you measure it like search, not like ABM |
| YouTube / Display | Follow-up across all stages | CPC £0.30-1.50, video CPM £5-25 | Retargeting specifiers across a 12 to 24 month cycle | Judging it on direct conversion alone |
| Programmatic | Design development through specification | CPM £4-12 | Scaling reach across trade media once search proves the audience | Reach without intent data if the audience lists are thin |
| Demand Gen | Design development through specification | CPM varies by objective | Turning high-intent search audiences into YouTube and Discover placements | Running it before search has generated the retargeting pools |
Search is the revenue engine
It captures active demand at the exact moment of verification. If you run one channel, run this one with the structure in LOT 05.
LinkedIn is the account engine
Named architects, facade consultants and fire engineers by firm and seniority. Run it as ABM against 30 to 60 firms, not as a spray.
Retargeting is the memory
A specifier who saw your evidence page in month six needs to see your name again in month twelve. Cheap, persistent, never judged on direct conversion alone.
Benchmarks, CPC and the Cost of the Click
Every cladding manufacturer asks the same first question: what does this cost? The honest answer is more than the head-term CPC sitting in your Keyword Planner export, and far less than you think once you price the specification it buys. Here are the numbers we work with.
What Cladding Keywords Actually Cost in the UK
Directional blended CPC by keyword tier, built from public keyword tools and our campaign data.

Google Ads Benchmarks vs a Cladding Account
WordStream analysed over 13,000 US campaigns between April 2025 and March 2026 for the 2026 benchmark set. The cladding targets are what a well-structured specification account should reach, not what every account sees.
| Metric | 2025 average | 2026 average | Cladding spec-intent target |
|---|---|---|---|
| Search CTR | 6.66% | 6.64% | 3-5% (low volume, high intent = fewer impressions, deliberate clicks) |
| Cost per click | $5.26 | $5.42 | £2.50-8.00 on certification queries |
| Conversion rate | 7.52% | 8.18% | 5-8% on spec-intent landing pages |
| Cost per lead | $70.11 | $66.69 | £60-180 per spec-grade inquiry |
Reading 01
Average CPC is not your CPC
The $5.42 WordStream average mixes retail, legal and local services. Cladding certification queries run £3.50-8.00 in the UK, driven by scarcity of qualified bidders with real certificates.
Reading 02
CTR is a copy problem, not a bidding problem
The 2026 benchmark CTR is 6.64%. A certification ad that names the standard in headline one routinely beats the average because the searcher sees the exact evidence they typed for.
Reading 03
CPL only makes sense with a cycle
At £60 to £180 per spec-grade inquiry and a 12 to 24 month conversion window, last-click CPL will mislead you. Cost per named specification is the figure to defend in the boardroom.
Budget Model: What to Spend and What It Returns
The budget conversation in cladding splits in two. The click model works forward: feed in a monthly spend and it tells you how many clicks, inquiries and RFQs to expect under a defined structure. The value model works backwards: price one named specification and it tells you what you can afford to pay per RFQ and per click. Run both and you get a budget you can defend.

RFQ projection: at this spend and structure you should land between 13 and 20 qualified RFQs per month. A specified system survives substitution in roughly 9 out of 10 projects, which is why one spec-stage RFQ is worth several tender-stage enquiries.
Model assumes a 65/35 split between specification-intent and tender-intent campaigns, a 3.5% blended CTR and the conversion rates shown in the benchmarks section. Your own account will differ; that is exactly why we run a 90 day test before scaling.

What One Named Specification Is Worth
Work backwards from the projects you actually win. This model tells you what a spec-stage RFQ is worth, so you stop bidding on what keywords cost and start bidding on what the specification returns.
A specified system survives substitution in roughly 9 out of 10 projects, which is why the value of a named specification compounds across repeat projects and reference sites.

The takeaway: if a spec-stage RFQ is worth £20,000 to you, a certification click at £4 to £8 that converts at 3 to 6 percent is cheap. The account that loses money on paper (high CPC, low click conversion) is often the account winning the specification. Judge it on cost per named spec, not cost per click.
Model uses your own inputs, a 90% specification survival rate and a 5.5% click to inquiry conversion for spec-intent campaigns. It is a planning envelope, not a guarantee. Your win rate and project mix will differ, which is why the 90 day test phase exists before you scale.
The two models disagree on purpose
Click model says
More clicks at a lower CPC looks like efficiency. A 65/35 spec-to-tender split and a 5.5% spec conversion rate are the honest assumptions behind it.
Value model says
A named specification is worth thousands in margin. The affordable CPC it implies is usually higher than the click model wants to pay. That gap is the point.
The resolution
Structure the account so the click model feeds the value model: cheap click volume on certification queries that produce the named specs the value model prices.
Bid Strategy and the Auction
Every search query runs an auction. Your ad rank comes from your bid multiplied by your Quality Score, and you pay only enough to beat the advertiser behind you. Raise the Quality Score and you can hold position one while paying less than the competitor underneath. Bid strategy is how you tell Google what that auction is worth to you. This table maps the options to the life of a cladding account.
Bid Strategy Selection for a Cladding Account
The right bid strategy depends on conversion history, not preference. This table maps the options to where a cladding account usually sits.
| Strategy | How it works | Best when | Cladding verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manual CPC | You set the max CPC per keyword or ad group | Days 1-30, tiny account, full control required | Use for the launch phase while search terms are still unknown |
| Target CPA | The algorithm targets a cost per conversion you set | 30+ conversions per month and clean conversion data | Default after the 90 day test on spec-intent campaigns |
| Target ROAS | The algorithm targets a revenue per spend ratio | Offline conversion import with revenue values in place | Best once won projects are uploaded and revenue is attributed |
| Maximize Clicks | Get the most clicks within a budget cap | Brand campaigns or very early discovery | Rarely. In cladding it collects irrelevant clicks while learning |
| Target Impression Share | Aim for a share of top-of-page auctions | Defensive coverage on your own brand and certificate names | Use only to defend certificate-name searches against competitors |
Auction insights are a spy tool
The auction insights report shows who else shows on your certification keywords, their impression share, and how often they outrank you. If a competitor holds 80% impression share on your own certificate name, that is a call to raise the floor, not a coincidence.
Defend the brand and certificate names
Competitors bid on your system name and your certificate numbers. A target impression share of 90 to 100% on those queries is cheap insurance. The moment you stop defending, a rival's ad sits above your own page.
Quality Score beats a bigger bid
Two advertisers bidding the same £5: the one with the higher Quality Score wins the position and pays less. The audit in LOT 07 is not an exercise, it is the cheapest bid strategy in the account.
Why the Market Favours Specification PPC
Regulation is rewriting the cladding market in real time. Grenfell pushed fire performance to the top of every facade decision, and specifiers now check evidence with a rigour that did not exist ten years ago. Every one of those checks starts as a search, and each search is an auction for a manufacturer with published test results. This is why specification-intent PPC works: the queries exist, the volume is growing, and the person typing them is mid-project.
Rainscreen Cladding Market to 2035
Future Market Insights values the global rainscreen cladding market at USD 2,733.5 million in 2025, growing at 6.9% CAGR to USD 5,327.1 million by 2035. A growing market means a growing pool of specification projects.

Regulation drives verification searches
Approved Document B, the Building Safety Act and tightening EU rules mean every facade above a height threshold needs its fire evidence checked. The manufacturer with that evidence published gets the traffic; the one waiting to publish it watches the checks happen without them.
Remediation adds a second pipeline
The UK has pledged over £5 billion to cladding remediation, and thousands of buildings are being reclad to modern fire standards. Remediation projects demand the same evidence trail as new build, and they are being decided right now.
The winner is named before the tender
Facade systems are specified by name in month nine, then tendered in month eighteen. The manufacturer who controls the verification search in month nine sets the competitive field. Everyone else competes for substitution.

14 June 2017. 72 people killed. The facade, including ACM panels and insulation, failed during the fire. The event rewrote every cladding specification conversation in the UK and beyond.
Combustible materials ban tightened
December 2018. Regulation 7(4) removed the exemption for buildings between 18m and 30m, extending the ban on combustible materials in external walls to all residential buildings above 18m.
Grenfell Inquiry Phase 1 report
30 October 2019. Phase 1 findings on the night of the fire. Phase 2 hearings opened 28 January 2020.
Building Safety Fund
May 2020. £1 billion fund for removing unsafe cladding from high-rise residential buildings. The UK government has pledged over £5 billion to cladding remediation overall.
Building Safety Act
Royal Assent 28 April 2022. Created the Building Safety Regulator, new dutyholder roles for the design and construction of higher-risk buildings, and the golden thread of information.
Grenfell Inquiry Phase 2 report
4 September 2024. The 1,700 page final report set out a chain of failures across government and industry. The inquiry formally closed on 10 February 2025.
Approved Document B rolling amendments
The 2019 edition of Approved Document B continues to absorb 2020, 2022, 2025 and further amendments. Specifiers now verify reaction to fire classes, BS 8414 test status and EWS1 risk with a rigour they did not have in 2016.
What this means for your bid strategy
Certification queries are the moat
Only manufacturers with real evidence can convert them. Bid to own them and the price of entry protects you.
Application queries scale the account
Cladding for hospitals, schools, high-rise residential and data centres widen the funnel without losing intent.
New-build and remediation create repeat demand
A system specified on one project keeps coming back on the next. Every won project adds to the reference list, and each reference makes the next specification easier to win.
Measurement, GEO and AI Citations
The ads are the easy part. Measurement is where cladding accounts fall apart. A click in month three can become an RFQ in month eighteen, and if your reporting only credits last click, the specification campaigns that built the pipeline look useless while the procurement campaign that caught a ready buyer looks like the whole story. Both readings are wrong.
The measurement stack that fits the cycle
- Offline conversion import. Upload closed RFQs and won projects to Google Ads so the account learns which keywords actually produce revenue, not just form fills.
- Assisted conversions. Report on assisted and data-driven attribution so the retargeting and comparison campaigns get credit for the pipeline they build.
- Specification tracking. Tag downloads of NBS clauses, BIM objects and spec packs as micro-conversions that predict future RFQs.
- CRM feedback loop. Link the paid pipeline to the sales CRM so win rates and deal sizes flow back into bid decisions.
GEO: getting cited by AI answer engines
AI answer tools pull from the indexed web, so the pages your PPC sends traffic to must also be pages that rank and get cited. The overlap is not an accident. Run paid search to validate which evidence assets specifiers actually want, then let those same assets rank organically. A certification page, a standard comparison guide and a specification clause library become citable sources for AI engines over time.
When an architect asks an AI tool for an A2 rated rainscreen system, the systems that get named are the ones with published, structured, verifiable evidence online. PPC accelerates the validation of those assets and the traffic signals help them rank. GEO compounds slowly, and specification PPC is the fastest way to feed it.
KPI 01
Cost per named specification
The only number the CEO cares about. Upload won projects offline and report it quarterly.
KPI 02
Evidence asset downloads
Certificates, NBS clauses, BIM objects. The micro-conversions that predict the future pipeline.
KPI 03
Search term purity
The share of clicks on spec-relevant queries. A purity score under 70% means the negatives and match types need work.
In-House Team or Agency: The Honest Comparison
Running a cladding PPC account once it exists is routine. Building it is the hard part. It needs industry fluency, certification knowledge, technical landing pages and the patience to sit through a 12 to 24 month cycle. That is the tradeoff in the table below.
In-House vs Agency for Cladding PPC
The decision is not about hourly cost. It is about who carries the build phase and the industry knowledge.
| Factor | In-house | Specialist agency |
|---|---|---|
| Industry knowledge | Deep on your product, thin on standards landscape | Built across multiple cladding and facade accounts |
| Certification copy | Depends on marketing hire | Standard practice, tested patterns |
| Account structure | Rebuilt from scratch, mistakes cost months | Reference structure from day one |
| 90-day test phase | Slower, competing with day job | Dedicated, measurable from week one |
| Long-term cost | Hiring, training, tools, churn risk | Predictable monthly fee, no hiring risk |
| Best for | Established account, in-house AEC marketer | First build, expansion to new markets |
Case Study: From Generic Clicks to Named Specifications
A UK rainscreen manufacturer came to us with a Google Ads account spending £6,000 a month on head-term cladding keywords. The search term report was 70% DIY, meaning and training queries. The landing page was a homepage carousel. They were getting clicks and almost nothing else.
Before
£6,000
monthly spend, 70% wasted clicks, under 2 project inquiries per month, zero evidence assets published.
Restructure
6 campaigns
certification, specification, comparison, procurement, LinkedIn ABM and retargeting, each with a dedicated landing page and evidence download.
After 8 months
18 RFQs
11 named in specification on live projects, cost per RFQ down 60% versus the old head-term account, 340 evidence pack downloads.
What the sales director said
“For the first time our inbound enquiries come with the project name, the facade consultant and the stage of the specification. Before, we were chasing installers for small orders. Now the architects come to us.”
“The evidence downloads are the quiet win. Every certificate download is a project team doing its homework on our system. Three months later the RFQ shows up. The cycle is slow, but it is finally working.”
